Johannes Klasing

Johannes Klasing (born October 19, 1846 in Bielefeld ; † April 14, 1927 there ; full name: Heinrich August Johannes Klasing ) was a German publisher .

Life

Johannes Klasing came from a family of craftsmen and later merchants in Bielefeld. His parents were the publisher and co-founder of the Velhagen & Klasing publishing house , August Klasing (1809–1897) and Auguste Klasing born. Nordsieck (1821–1866).

Johannes Klasing joined his father's publishing house and managed it from Berlin. With bookshops, printers and a geographical institute , he built it into one of the leading publishing houses in Germany.

In 1880 he married Henriette Charlotte Magdalene geb. Quentell (* 1846), with whom he had six children, among them his successor as publisher August Klasing (1881-1958).

Together with his son-in-law Konrad Delius , Klasing founded the Delius Klasing publishing house in 1911 , initially as a magazine publisher. The first publishing product was the Allgemeine Automobil-Zeitung , organ of the Imperial Automobile Club .

Klasing was awarded the honorary title of commercial councilor . In 1912 Wilhelm II appointed him a member of the Prussian mansion "out of the highest confidence" . He was a co-founder of the Kaiser Wilhelm Society for the Advancement of Science .
