Johannes Lemke

Johannes Lemke (* 1966 in Cologne ) is a German jazz saxophonist.

Live and act

Lemke first played the clarinet before switching to the saxophone. He studied at the music academies in Arnhem, Rotterdam and Cologne. His teachers included Willie Thomas , Clark Terry , Bob Mintzer, and Herb Geller .

Lemke founded the group lirico with the guitarist Mario Mammone . After releasing the album Terra incognita with bassist André Nendza and drummer Christoph Hillmann as well as with Andreas Wildenhain and Charlie Mariano as a guest in 2003 , he founded the trio Lemke / Nendza / Hillmann , whose debut CD El Arte was made in 2004.

In 2006 he recorded the album Live with the pianist Thomas Rückert . Lemke also worked with musicians such as Rajeeb Chokroborty , Rob van den Broeck , Ramesh Shotham and Dave Liebman .

With Dominique Pifarély and Zoltán Lantos he toured together with Lemke / Nendza / Hillmann in 2009 and 2011 with two of the most renowned jazz violinists in Europe. He has been a member of Ensemble Mizard since 2011. With the tenor Ulrich Cordes and the pianist Laia Genc they interpret psalm texts in the field of tension between new music and jazz. In the Duo Shatabdi he works with the pianist Jarry Singla .
