Müller then did a commercial apprenticeship in Bremen , Bordeaux and Porto and then became a partner in his father's company from 1888 on the initiative of his now widowed mother. The company then expanded rapidly under his leadership, as Müller was able to take advantage of the restructuring of the Brake port to include bulk goods transport (grain) and had the first large warehouses built as early as 1893. In 1899 the first mechanically operated grain extinguishing system was added on the Weser . Together with the company Karl Groß , Müller fought off foreign competition and achieved a monopoly-like position in the port of Brake.

politics

From 1905 to 1929 Müller was initially a member of the German Freedom Party (DFP) and a member of the Oldenburg State Parliament. Later he gradually moved to the right and after 1918 switched to the German People's Party (DVP).
