Johannes Magirus (theologian, 1560)

Johannes Magirus (born August 20, 1560 in Stuttgart ; † June 12, 1626 in Bebenhausen Monastery ) was a German Protestant pastor and abbot .

Magirus, a son of the Württemberg theologian Johannes Magirus , was trained in the monastery school in Maulbronn and studied at the University of Tübingen . He was a deacon in Herrenberg and Stuttgart, from 1589 pastor in Backnang . In 1598 he became superintendent in Göppingen . On July 24, 1603 he gave the first evangelical sermon in Salach and thus carried out the local Reformation. In 1609 he became abbot in Anhausen an der Brenz monastery , in 1612 provost in Denkendorf and finally in 1619 abbot and prelate in Bebenhausen, where he died in 1626.

In addition to funeral sermons , Magirus published a controversial theological text against the Calvinist Georg Hanfeld in 1592 .
