life and work

Born in Leipzig in 1981, Johannes Rochhausen has been studying painting at the College of Graphics and Book Art since 2001 . From 2003 to 2005 he studied painting with Professor Arno Rink and from 2005 to 2007 with Professor Neo Rauch . In 2007 Johannes Rochhausen finally received his diploma in fine arts at the University of Graphic and Book Art in Leipzig. From 2007 to 2009 he was a master student of the internationally known Leipzig painter Neo Rauch. In 2013 he received a working grant in New York in the International Studio and Curatorial Program, advertised by the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony . In addition, he was and is represented in numerous solo and group exhibitions.

Johannes Rochhausen can be classified in the genre of interior and studio painting. Rochhausen works by neon light, often at night; the hard artificial light in his studio in the Leipzig cotton spinning mill is also visible in the pictures and makes his works appear cool and sober. His paintings lack a narrative element, yet Rochhausen manages to create tension in this emptiness. He does not compose his paintings with figures, but with the use of color and light as well as the modeling of surface and space.

Johannes Rochhausen is the youngest son of three children of the painter Angelika Rochhausen (born September 12, 1942 in Neukirchen / Pleiße ; † February 18, 2017 in Leipzig ).
