Johannes Schefer

Johannes Schefer (born December 6, 1738 in Schwellbrunn ; † August 6, 1799 there ; authorized to reside in Schwellbrunn) was a Swiss mayor , state cap master and mayor from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Johannes Schefer was a son of Friedrich Schefer, farmer , factory owner and state governor, and Anna Frischknecht. In 1761 he married Barbara Kessler, daughter of Friedrich Kessler, a farmer. A second marriage, he went in 1788 with Anna Elisabeth Tribelhorn, daughter of Johann Jakob Tribelhorn, farmer , host and community Captain , one. Schefer was a farmer and manufacturer. From 1770 to 1776 he was a councilor. From 1776 to 1786 he was mayor of Schwellbrunn. From 1786 to 1793 he held the office of regional master craftsman and from 1793 to 1797 that of Ausserrhoder Landammann. Schefer was elected as the farmer's representative, although he was not qualified for it due to poor schooling and frequent illness. A visit to the Diet was not reasonably be expected to. His weak leadership made him a target of the French party in 1797
