Johannes (Hans) Schroers (born January 7, 1885 in Langenberg (Rhineland) , † June 18, 1960 in Bremen ) was a German politician ( DVP , NSDAP , FDP ), police officer and, for a short time in 1945, governing mayor of Bremen.

Schroers was the son of a postmaster and accountant. He graduated from high school and was trained for police service . In 1910 he became a police commissioner with the industrial police. During the First World War he served as a reserve officer in the Balkans . After the war he worked in various police stations. From 1919 to 1922 he was a member of the German People's Party. In 1922 he became a captain in the police force and in 1928 a major in the police force. He taught at the police school in Münster until 1933 .

In 1932 he joined the National Socialist German Workers' Party (membership number 1.265.379). In 1933 he was promoted to commander of the police in various Westphalian cities and then worked in Potsdam and Berlin in 1934 . In 1935 he was an assessor at the People's Court . In 1936 he was promoted to colonel in the police. From 1937 he worked as a commander of the police in Cologne . In 1938 he took part in the " invasion of Austria ".

Time in Bremen

In May 1938 he became commander of the police in Bremen. In 1940 he became Deputy Police President and in 1941 Acting Police President in Bremen as the successor to Curt Ludwig . He was promoted to major general of the police and automatically promoted to SS-Brigadführer by law in 1942. In April 1945, together with Bremen personalities, he successfully handed over Bremen to the British troops without a fight. On April 26, 1945 he was appointed mayor by the British , but on April 30, 1945 he was deposed by the Canadians and interned in the Fallingbostel camp until 1949. From 1951 he lived in Bremen again and was politically active in the FDP in Bremen.
