Johannes Starosta

Johann (es) "Micky" Starosta (born April 5, 1912 in Wattenscheid , † April 11, 1995 in Cologne ) was a German jockey in horse racing . He achieved 1,320 victories, including a victory in the German Derby in 1965 on Waidwerk.

Career

Micky Starosta completed his training as a jockey in Hoppegarten with coach Joachim von Eckartsberg from 1928-1933.

In his fourth year of apprenticeship he almost won the jockey championship in 1932 , but was only second due to an accident. He is one of those successful riders who could never win the championship. In his later years he rode for the Röttgen and Ravensberg studs .

In addition to the German Derby, he won many well-known group races . He is the record holder with six wins at the Gerling Prize and won the Diana Prize three times . With his 1320 victories, he is a member of the Club of 1000 who were able to achieve more than 1000 victories as a jockey.

After finishing his career he wrote the book about his experiences as a jockey:

Starosta died in 1995 a few days after his 83rd birthday. His grave is located in the Ehrenfeld part of the Melaten cemetery in Cologne (corridor E19 No. 114).
