Johannes Streich (born April 16, 1891 in Augustenburg , † August 20, 1977 in Hamburg ) was a German lieutenant general in World War II .

Streich began his military career on August 1, 1911 as a flagjunker in the Prussian Army with the Royal Prussian Railway Regiment No. 2. With this he was promoted to lieutenant on January 27, 1913 . His patent was dated January 29, 1911. He took part in the First World War. After the war he was accepted into the Reichswehr . From October 1, 1935, he was in command of the 15th Panzer Regiment. On December 1, 1935, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on April 1, 1938, to colonel . At the beginning of the Second World War he was still in command of the 15th Panzer Regiment. In January 1941, he was given command of the 5th Panzer Brigade. He was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on January 31, 1941 . From February 7, 1941, he was in command of the newly established 5th Light Division and was promoted to major general on the same day . From September 1941 he led the Wehrmacht's Africa campaign . Lieutenant General Erwin Rommel blamed Streich for the failure of the siege of Tobruk and saw to it that he was replaced as division commander on May 16, 1941, while Rommel himself was responsible for this failure. Streich had previously criticized Rommel several times. Now he was used as commander of the Streich combat group. From autumn 1941 he was in command of the 16th Infantry Division . From June 1, 1942 he was inspector of the rapid troops. From May 1, 1943, then inspector of the Wroclaw Military Replacement Inspection. On October 1, 1943, he was promoted to lieutenant general. In April 1945 he was given the post of inspector of the Berlin Military Replacement Inspection.
