Johannes Tschudy

Johannes Tschudy (* 1672 ; † November 1, 1736 in Basel ) was a cabinet maker , master builder and engineer from Basel who also worked in Baden-Durlach and Bern.

life and work

Johannes Tschudy, son of a baker, completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter and then trained as an engineer. Since 1699 he can be proven as a cabinet maker in the Basel region. In 1701 Tschudy bought the guild rights of the Basel spinning weather guild . In 1710 he became a master builder and court carpenter of the Margrave of Baden-Durlach . In addition, he worked for the cities of Basel and Bern as an engineer and building expert.

The most important collection of his furniture is in the Basel Historical Museum .
