The Johanniter-Akademie Mitteldeutschland is a training center for the health and social sectors with locations in Saxony , Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia . The carrier is the evangelical aid organization Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe .

history

The Johanniter Academy Central Germany was founded in October 2008 in Leipzig by the current academy director Lars Menzel. Since 2011, the academy has been awarding the Praxis-Partner-Preis annually for partner institutions that are particularly committed to the practical training of trainees. The Johanniter Academy has been a training center of the AHA (American Heart Association) since 2014 and offers courses for medical staff at the MSTC (Medical Skills Training Center) Leipzig. In 2017, the sponsorship program and advice center for decentralized asylum seekers and tolerated persons was taken over by the Leipzig Refugee Council after its bankruptcy. In 2018 planning began for the Lorenzo campus in the Reudnitz district of Leipzig , which is to be used together with Caritas . In the same year, the project “Seekers of Refuge as Lifesavers” started, which was developed at the Johanniter Academy and runs nationwide. Apprenticeships with German lessons and intercultural training are offered for people with a refugee background.

Structure and organization

Lars Menzel is the managing director of the Johanniter Academy for Central Germany. The management consists of himself as well as Dietmar Link and Andreas Weigel . Detlef Brock is the medical director . The academy has locations in Leipzig, Halle (Saale) , Magdeburg , Stendal / Altmark , Staßfurt / Salzlandkreis and Wittenberg . The Academy operates the Medical Skills Training Center (MSTC) Leipzig for "soft skills", "hard skills" and "technical skills" for medical personnel. These skills are imparted in individual on-site training courses or CRM (Crisis / Crew Resource Management) training courses in emergency rooms , clinics or surgical centers. In addition, the academy has an area for realistic accident representation with professional mimes and make-up painters for accident training and film and photo recordings.

Training center

The Johanniter-Akademie Mitteldeutschland is a recognized training provider for basic, advanced and advanced training in the field of health and social affairs, international training courses from the American Heart Association and trainer courses from the employers' liability insurance association. It also runs vocational schools for physiotherapy , emergency paramedics , social services , nursing and technical schools for social services and offers dual study places including stays abroad with Erasmus + . The academy is also a training center for the higher teaching post at vocational schools in the Free State of Saxony.

New Lorenzo Campus

On September 1, 2019, the foundation stone for the new construction of the Johanniter Education Center was laid in the Reudnitz district of Leipzig. 800 new apprenticeship positions will be created on 3,500 square meters, with fully functional ambulance cabins and virtual reality emergency simulations. The Lorenzo campus also includes the construction of a new Caritas day care center and age-appropriate housing options as well as mother-child shared accommodation , which gives the trainees the opportunity to receive practical training. The training center is due to be completed in 2021. The building will be erected on the site of the ruin on Riebeckstrasse, while the listed corner building next door will be used as a dormitory for academy students.
