John A. Kantara

John Amoateng Kantara (* 1964 in Bonn ) is a director , author and journalist .

Life

After completing his military service as a medic with the German Navy, John A. Kantara studied political science at the Free University in Berlin from 1986 to 1991 . In his diploma thesis Black Germans - their history and structures of their own organization (1991) he dealt with the beginnings of the Initiative Schwarze Menschen in Deutschland e. V. , which he co-founded in 1987. In the same year he founded the magazine afro look together with other Berlin Afro-Germans . In 1992 he completed his Master of Arts in International Journalism at City University in London.

From 1992 to 2000 he was an editor at Die Zeit -TV. Since 2000 he has worked as a freelance journalist and TV writer a. a. active for ZDF , 3sat and Sat.1 . He also writes for various domestic and foreign newspapers. He has also been a professor of journalism at Dekra University Berlin since 2011 .

Prizes and awards

In 2007 he was awarded the PUNKT journalist prize for an article in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung and in 2010 the European journalist prize. In 2012 Kantara received the Georg von Holtzbrinck Prize for Science Journalism and in 2013 the Otto Brenner Prize for Critical Journalism.
