John Alvin (actor)
John Alvin Hoffstadt (born October 24, 1917 in Chicago , Illinois , † February 27, 2009 in Thousand Oaks , California ) was an American actor .
Life
John Alvin Hoffstadt was born in Chicago to a surgeon and an opera singer . He became interested in acting while he was still in high school, so he moved to California in 1939 to study acting at the Pasadena Playhouse . There he also met his future wife June, whom he married in 1947 and with whom he stayed until his death in 2009. With the outbreak of World War II , he gave up his last name and called himself only John Alvin from then on . During this time, he also signed an exclusive four-year contract with Warner Bros. , which resulted in over 25 Warner film productions, often uncredited.
Up to the end of his career, which ended with his last film Pocket Money , Alvin appeared increasingly in television series and films, less often in films such as The Girl Irma la Douce and A Deadly Dream . In addition to occasional guest appearances in series such as The Incredible Hulk and Mord is Her Hobby , Alvin's roles were often so insignificant that he was not mentioned in the credits in many productions. Although he was regularly employed as an actor, he did not have a leading role in any of the productions.
On February 27, 2009, Alvin died as a result of a fall in his nursing home, which he had lived in for 20 years. He was cremated and his ashes were scattered across the Pacific . He left behind his wife, a son and a daughter, as well as four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One son died in 1969 from a drug overdose.
