John Anthony Bailey (born April 1, 1957 in Liverpool ) is a retired English football player . The left -back came through the detour Blackburn Rovers in 1979 for Everton , where she won the 1984 FA Cup before going into the 1984/85 season before winning the "doubles" of the English Championship and UEFA Cup Winners' Cup by Pat Van Den Hauwe consisting of Stammelf was ousted. Athletic career

Blackburn Rovers (1975-1979)

Bailey came in the 1975/76 season to his first competitive appearances in the first team of the Blackburn Rovers . The Rovers had returned from the third division to the second division the year before and after his debut on August 19, 1975 in the League Cup against Preston North End (0: 2), he ran for the first time on February 24, 1976 against Blackpool (1: 1 ) in a championship game. Faster than expected, the "curly haired" conquered a regular place on the left full-back , which was also due to the financial constraints that the Rovers were faced with in the summer of 1976. The result was that in addition to newly signed talents such as Andy Needham and Bobby Mitchell , the focus was on their own offspring, from which Bailey benefited from the 1976/77 season.

In the three years up to the end of the 1978/79 season he was a "long-runner" in his position with a total of 114 league games, and he liked his offensive urge and strength in duels. The only hit during his professional time in Blackburn he succeeded on November 19, 1977 in a 3-1 win over Mansfield Town . His engagement ended disappointingly in the spring of 1979 with relegation to the third division and one of the first official acts of the new player-coach Howard Kendall was to make money from Bailey, which is interesting for first division clubs. So he finally moved in July 1979 for a transfer fee of 300,000 pounds to Everton FC in the English elite class.

Everton FC (1979–1985)

Under coach Gordon Lee , he did not miss a single competitive game at his new club in the 1979/80 season; thus he helped the "Toffees" to stay close to the league . After a second year and a further placement in the lower table sector , he fell out of favor with new coach Howard Kendall in the 1981/82 season - who had sold him to Everton two years earlier - before moving to his position in the 1982 / 83 and was instrumental in the team's upward trend that followed. The provisional highlight was winning the FA Cup in May 1984 , in the final of which Bailey and his men defeated Watford FC 2-0.

In October 1984 Everton signed the Welsh Pat Van Den Hauwe , who immediately secured the left-back position and Bailey was left out in the further course of the 1984/85 championship season . The 15 league appearances should still be enough for the official receipt of a championship medal. Even in the decisive games on the way to winning the European Cup Winners' Cup , Bailey was no longer after four appearances in the first two rounds against UC Dublin (0-0; 1-0) and Inter Bratislava (1-0; 3-0) represented. A short time later, Bailey, who had always been the crowd favorite and "mood cannon" in the dressing room of Everton FC, left the club in October 1985 in the direction of league rivals Newcastle United .

Career finale (1985–1991)

In the "Magpies" Bailey found in the 1985/86 season initially back to regular appearances in the traditional position, came to 28 league games. This he made eight more appearances at the beginning of the subsequent season 1986/87 follow before he lost his place to Kenny Wharton . By the end of the 1987/88 season, he was only four times - including three times at the beginning of the round - and ultimately had to pass Wharton, Brian Tinnion and John Cornwell in the pecking order . In September 1988 he was hired at the same two leagues lower acting club Bristol City .

From mid-October 1988 Bailey won from Russell Bromage there the regular place on the left defensive side and within two years he succeeded with the "Robins" on the runner-up to promotion to the second division. There the club found in Martin Scott from December 1990 an almost eleven years younger alternative for Bailey, who withdrew from active sport with only seven league appearances in his last professional season 1990/91.

Until 1993 he worked as a youth coach for Everton FC.
