John Boekenfoehr

John Boekenfoehr OMI (born January 28, 1903 in West Point , Nebraska , † August 7, 1982 ) was Bishop of Kimberley .

Life

Born in Nebraska, John Boekenfoehr joined the Oblate Order and was ordained a priest on July 11, 1927 .

Pope Pius XII appointed him on March 24, 1953 bishop of the South African diocese of Kimberley. He was ordained bishop on May 3rd of the same year by Pietro Cardinal Fumasoni Biondi , Prefect of the Congregation De Propaganda Fide . Co- consecrators were Mathurin Blanchet , Bishop of Aosta , and Jean-Louis-Antoine-Joseph Coudert , Vicar Apostolic of Whitehorse . From 1962 to 1965 Boekenfoehr took part in the Second Vatican Council as a council father .

Pope Paul VI accepted his resignation on July 1, 1974. John Boekenfoehr died eight years later at the age of 79.
