Erwin Hecht

Erwin Hecht OMI (born October 13, 1933 in Burgrieden ; † November 19, 2016 in Hünfeld ) was a German clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Kimberley .

Life

Erwin Hecht was on 26 July 1959 as a member of the Congregation of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate for priests ordained.

On February 3, 1972, Pope Paul VI appointed him . the titular bishop of Obba and Auxiliary Bishop in Kimberley. He received the episcopal ordination on May 11, 1972 by the Archbishop of Bloemfontain , Joseph Patrick Fitzgerald OMI; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Leribe , Paul Khoarai , and the Bishop of Mariannhill , Martin Elmar Schmid CMM . For the motto, Hecht chose from the Gospel of John “So that they may have life and have it in abundance” (Joh. 10,10). On July 1, 1974, Pope Paul VI called him. to the Bishop of Kimberley.

On December 15, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for reasons of age. After Hecht spent some time in his former diocese, he returned to Germany and spent your retirement in the Bonifatius Monastery in Hünfeld . He continued to do pastoral work. Erwin Hecht died on November 19, 2016 at the age of 83 in Hünfeld.
