The Roman Catholic Diocese of Kimberley ( Latin Dioecesis Kimberleyensis , English Diocese of Kimberley ) is in South Africa situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Kimberley .
history
The Diocese of Kimberley was on June 4, 1886 by Pope Leo XIII. Established from cessions of territory by the Vicariate Apostolic Diocese of Queenstown, Cape of Good Hope, Eastern District and Natal as Vicariate Apostolic Kimberley in Orange . On May 8, 1894, the Vicariate Apostolic Kimberley in Orange gave parts of its territory to the establishment of the Apostolic Prefecture Basutoland .
The Apostolic Vicariate of Kimberley in Orange was renamed the Apostolic Vicariate of Kimberley in South Africa in 1918. On November 26, 1923, the Vicariate Apostolic of Kimberley in South Africa gave parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture of Kroonstad . Another assignment of territory took place on April 9, 1948 to establish the Apostolic Vicariate of Pretoria . The Apostolic Vicariate of Kimberley in South Africa gave on January 11, 1951 parts of its territory to establish the Archdiocese of Bloemfontein .
On January 11, 1951, the Vicariate Apostolic Kimberley in South Africa by Pope Pius XII. raised to a diocese with the Apostolic Constitution Suprema Nobis and renamed the Diocese of Kimberley . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Bloemfontein as a suffragan . On April 2, 1959, the Diocese of Kimberley gave parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture of Bechuanaland .
