The Diocese of Gaborone (Latin Dioecesis Gaboronensis , English Diocese of Gaborone ) is an in Botswana situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Gaborone .

history

Pope John XXIII founded the Apostolic Constitution Cum Venerabiles Fratres the Apostolic Prefecture of Bechuanaland out of territory of the dioceses Bulawayo , Kimberley and the Apostolic Vicariate of Windhoek on April 2, 1959. It originally encompassed the entire territory of the Protectorate .

With the Apostolic Constitution Sanctae Ecclesiae it was raised on August 5, 1966 to the diocese of Gaberones, which was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Bloemfontein as a suffragan diocese. On April 7, 1970, it took on its current name.

It lost part of its territory on June 27, 1998 to the Vicariate Apostolic Francistown and on June 5, 2007 it was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Pretoria as a suffragan diocese.
