The Erzbistum Bulawayo ( lat. : Archidioecesis Bulauaiensis ) is in Zimbabwe preferred Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Bulawayo .

history

The Archdiocese of Bulawayo was founded on January 4, 1931 by Pope Pius XI. established with the Apostolic Constitution Congregationis Missionariorum from cessions of territory from the Apostolic Prefecture of Salisbury as Mission sui juris Bulawayo . On July 18, 1932, the Mission sui juris Bulawayo by Pius XI. with the Apostolic Constitution Admonet Nos raised to the Apostolic Prefecture . The Apostolic Prefecture of Bulawayo was founded on April 13, 1937 by Pius XI. with the Apostolic Constitution Ad maiorem dignitatis raised to the Apostolic Vicariate . On June 29, 1953 the Vicariate Apostolic Bulawayo gave parts of its territory to the establishment of the Apostolic Prefecture of Wankie .

The Apostolic Vicariate Bulawayo was on January 1, 1955 by Pope Pius XII. with the Apostolic Constitution Quod Christ raised to the diocese and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Salisbury as a suffragan . On April 2, 1959, the Diocese of Bulawayo gave parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture of Bechuanaland . The diocese of Bulawayo was raised to an archbishopric on June 10, 1994 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Ipso bene iuvante .
