The Bistum Gweru ( lat. : Dioecesis Gueruensis ) is in Zimbabwe preferred Roman Catholic diocese based in Gweru . It includes the districts of Gweru, Chirumhanzu , Kwekwe , Mberengwa , Shurugwi and Zvishavane in the Midlands Province .
history
Pope Pius XII founded the Apostolic Prefecture Fort Victoria on November 14, 1946 . The mission was entrusted to the religious order Bethlehem Mission Immensee . With the bull In Arcis Victoriae she was raised to the Apostolic Vicariate on June 24, 1950 .
It was raised on January 1, 1955 with the Apostolic Constitution Quod Christ to the diocese, which took the name Gwelo, which was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Salisbury as a suffragan diocese. On June 25, 1982, it took on its current name. On June 10, 1994 it became part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Bulawayo .
It lost parts of its territory in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:
- February 2, 1953 to the Apostolic Prefecture of Umtali ;
- February 9, 1999 to the Diocese of Masvingo .
