Boniface Tshosa Setlalekgosi

Boniface Tshosa Setlalekgosi (born September 14, 1927 in Serowe , † January 25, 2019 in Gaborone ) was a Botswana clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Gaborone .

Life

Boniface Tshosa Setlalekgosi entered the seminary at Chishawasha, near Salisbury , Rhodesia , after attending St. Joseph's College in Khal in 1957 . He was ordained a priest for the Bechuanaland Apostolic Prefecture on July 22, 1963 .

He initially worked as an employee of Prefect Apostolic Urban Murphy in Francistown . He later became parish priest at the cathedral of the now established diocese of Gaborone . After the death of Bishop Murphys, he was elected vicar capitular .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Gaborone on November 30, 1981. The Archbishop of Bloemfontein Peter Fanyana John Butelezi OMI donated him episcopal ordination on March 6 of the next year ; Co- consecrators were Patrick Fani Chakaipa , Archbishop of Salisbury , and Alfonso Liguori Morapeli OMI, Archbishop of Maseru .

During his tenure, the Catholic Church in Botswana grew rapidly. On Setlalekgosi's silver bishop's jubilee, his pastoral work was honored. With regular visits to parishes and small Christian communities, he contributed to spiritual growth. The Botswana government awarded him the Presidential Order of Meritorious Service .

On February 5, 2009 Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related resignation.
