The Roman Catholic Diocese of Mariannhill ( Latin Dioecesis Collis Mariae / Dioecesis Mariannhillensis , English Diocese of Mariannhill ) is in South Africa situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Mariannhill .
history
The diocese of Mariannhill was on September 10, 1921 by Pope Benedict XV. Established from the cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate Natal as Apostolic Vicariate Mariannhill . On March 30, 1930, the Apostolic Vicariate Mariannhill gave parts of its territory to the establishment of the Apostolic Prefecture Umtata . Another assignment was made on April 8, 1935 to establish the Apostolic Prefecture of Mount Currie .
The Apostolic Vicariate Mariannhill was on January 11, 1951 by Pope Pius XII. raised to the diocese and subordinated to the archdiocese of Durban as a suffragan . On February 21, 1954, the Diocese of Mariannhill gave parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Umzimkulu .
