John Broman (* 1958 in Duluth , Minnesota ) is a retired American ski jumper .

Career

In 1979, Broman was part of the US national team for the newly created Ski Jumping World Cup . He played his first jumping on December 30, 1979 at the start of the Four Hills Tournament 1979/80 in Oberstdorf . However, he only finished jumping in 104th place. Since he was also unsuccessful in the other three jumping competitions of the tour, he did not enter the World Cup again until the 1980/81 season . Here, too, he could not achieve any leading positions within the tour. But already in his first jump after the tour in Ironwood he reached his first podium of his career with third place in ski flying on the Copper Peak hill . In the second competition he also finished eighth in the top ten. A week later he was able to win another World Cup point in jumping in Thunder Bay with 15th place in the first competition. He clearly dominated the second competition and in the end he celebrated his first World Cup victory. It was his only one, however. At the end of the season he finished 18th in the overall World Cup ranking and could not build on the success of the previous season in the following season. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1982 he was only 16th on the large and 43rd on the normal hill. In the team competition, he achieved fifth place together with Jeff Hastings , Reed Zuehlke and Nils Stolzlechner . After the world championship, he achieved ninth and eleventh places in ski flying on the Kulm . He finished the season in 32nd place in the overall World Cup standings. In the following year he only started one World Cup and finished jumping on his home hill in Lake Placid on January 16, 1983 in 10th place. He then ended his active ski jumping career.
