Jeffrey Paul Hastings , called Jeff Hastings (born June 25, 1959 in Mountain Home , Idaho ) is a retired American ski jumper .
Career
Hastings jumped on January 23, 1981 for the first time in the ski jumping World Cup . He was able to win a World Cup point with 15th place in his first competition in Gstaad . A month later he jumped into the top ten for the first time in Thunder Bay, Canada, and reached 4th place. He finished the season in 49th place in the overall World Cup standings.
The following season began with rather poor results at the Four Hills Tournament 1981/82 . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1982 , Hastings jumped 35th on the normal hill and 15th on the large hill. In the team competition he reached 6th and last place together with Nils Stolzlechner , Reed Zuehlke and John Broman . In the jumping after the world championship he reached a place in the points without exception. In Štrbské Pleso he was on the podium for the first time with 3rd place at a World Cup. He ended the season in 20th place in the overall World Cup standings.
He also started the 1982/83 season cautiously, but was able to achieve better results in the 1983/84 Four Hills Tournament than in the previous year. In the jumps after the tour, however, he was always able to jump into the points and achieved his highest individual placement in Engelberg with 2nd place.
He started the 1983/84 season very successfully in the first competitions and was able to win his first World Cup competition on December 18, 1983 in Lake Placid . The day before he had already achieved 3rd place on the same hill. For the Four Hills Tournament 1983/84 he was able to achieve a result within the rating points for the first time with place 9 in the overall ranking.
At the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo , Hastings jumped 9th on the normal hill and 4th on the large hill. On the large hill he missed the bronze medal won by Pavel Ploc by just 0.2 points .
Hastings also remained successful in the World Cup competitions after the games and even jumped to 2nd place in Falun . At the end of the season he finished 4th overall.
In the world cup season 1984/85 Hastings jumped another world cup competition in Lahti , in which he landed on the 10th place. He then ended his active ski jumping career.
