John Buckley (Bishop)

John Buckley (born November 2, 1939 in Inchigela , County Cork ) is an Irish clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Cork and Ross .

Life

After finishing school, Buckley studied Roman Catholic theology at St. Patrick's College in Maynooth . Buckley was ordained a priest on June 20, 1965 . He then taught at St. Finbarrs College in Farranferris , of which he later became president.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on March 16, 1984 auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Cork and Ross and titular bishop of Leptis Magna . The Bishop of Cork and Ross, Michael Murphy , gave him on April 29 of that year, the episcopal ordination . Co- consecrators were the Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland, Archbishop Gaetano Alibrandi , and the Archbishop of Cashel and Emly , Thomas Morris .

On December 19, 1997, Buckley was named Bishop of Cork and Ross. The inauguration took place on February 8 of the following year.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on April 8, 2019.
