John Carlson (trumpeter)

John Carlson (* 1959 in Greencastle ) is an American jazz trumpeter .

Carlson graduated from Lawrence University in Wisconsin. He became known through recordings with the Either / Orchestra , the Charlie Kohlhase Quintet , the Machito Orchestra , the Palladium Orchestra , the Ken Shaphorst Ensemble and in the duo formation David Berkman / John Carlson. He continued to co-lead the Dharma Nau and Perfumed Scorpion groups and lead the Free Range Council group .

On more than twenty tours through the USA, Canada, Europe and Japan he performed a. a. at the Montreal , Ottawa and Toronto Jazz Festival , the North Sea Jazz Festival , the Pori Jazz Festival and the Kyoto Jazz Festival . As a soloist, he has performed and recorded with musicians such as Bob Brookmeyer , Julius Hemphill , Sam Rivers , Chocolate Armeteros , John Tchicai , Dave Liebman , George Garzone , Tito Puente , Mike Stern , Cab Calloway , Burton Greene , Butch Morris , Warren Smith , Billy Hart , Jay Rosen , Douglas Yates , Joanne Brackeen , Armen Donelian and John Medeski .
