career
Denmark, until 1965
Danielsen started his club career at Boldklubben in 1909 . From 1956/57 to 1965 he made a total of 167 league games and scored 55 goals for his team from Odense. With two championships and a cup success he had a successful time in his hometown. The club's performances inevitably led him to the national team.
Danielsen played 27 games for the Danish national team from 1958 to 1964. He took part in the 1960 Summer Olympics and the 1964 European Football Championship . While Denmark won the silver medal in second place with star striker Harald Nielsen at the Olympics - but Danielsen was not in action in the final against Yugoslavia (1: 3) - the team reached the semi-finals at the 1964 European Championship. Danielsen had qualified for the finals in Spain with the national team over Albania and Luxembourg alongside goal scorer Ole Madsen . The semifinals were lost 3-0 against the Soviet Union and the game for 3rd place 3-1 after extra time against Hungary and Denmark finished 4th at the 1964 European Championship.
The attacker from Odense made his debut on June 29, 1958 in the international match in Copenhagen against Norway (1: 2). In his second international match against Finland on September 14 in Helsinki, he scored two goals in a 4-1 win. In their third international match on September 24th in Copenhagen, Germany did not get beyond a 1-1 draw. For the team of national coach Sepp Herberger it was the first international match after the World Cup tournament in Sweden. In 1959 Danielsen was also used in the two qualifying games for the 1960 European Championship against Czechoslovakia (2: 2, 1: 5).
Werder Bremen, 1965 to 1970
For the 1965/66 season, the offensive player moved to the Bundesliga for the reigning German champions Werder Bremen. In his second year with the Green-Whites, 1966/67, his compatriot Ole Bjørnmose was added. Danielsen opened his business at Werder on August 14, 1965 with a 1-0 home win against 1. FC Nürnberg. Together with Hans Schulz , Arnold Schütz , Diethelm Ferner and Manfred Podlich , he formed the defending champion's attack formation. Werder had tried to compensate for the departure of master trainer Willy Multhaup by Günter Brocker . With 4th place in the Bundesliga in 1966/67, that didn't seem to have gone wrong. In the long term, however, this personnel did not succeed, in 1966/67 Werder went just past relegation in 16th place. Danielsen's first year at Werder, having scored five goals in 26 league appearances in the Bundesliga, also included participation in the European Championships and the DFB Cup. He played against Apoel Nicosia (5: 0, 5: 0) and scored two goals, against the team around Milutin Šoškić , Partizan Belgrade, he was injured in the two tough games in November 1965 (0: 3, 1 : 0) do not participate. In the DFB Cup, he threw the Bundesliga champions of 1966, Munich 1860, out of the running with 4-0 in January 1966, prevailed 2-0 against Concordia Hamburg in February and lost 3-1 on April 7, 1966 the Betzenberg against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Danielsen scored the consolation goal for Bremen.
When Fritz Langner took over from Brocker on September 9, 1967, Werder's path went up again in the table. At the end of the round, Danielsen (26-5) and his teammates were runner-up . Since Langner's successor with Fritz Rebell in the 1969/70 season was not a sustainable decision either, after finishing 11th in the summer of 1970, the Werder Bremen chapter ended with 17 goals after a total of 131 Bundesliga games. The 31-year-old Dane moved to Switzerland for FC Chiasso , where he played until 1973 and won the NLB championship in 1971/72 and played a year in the NLA in 1972/73 (19-2) before returning to Odense returned.
