Manfred Podlich (born May 14, 1940 ) is a former German soccer player who was active from 1961 to 1970 as a striker in the Soccer League North , Soccer Regionalliga North, Soccer Bundesliga and Soccer Regionalliga West.

career

Holstein Kiel, until 1965

The striker played for Holstein Kiel in the amateur, major and regional league teams until 1965 . Mostly Podlich played on the left wing. After winning the Schleswig-Holstein state championship with the amateur team of the Kiel "Storks" in the 1960/61 season, the talented winger and his teammates prevailed in the games for the German amateur championship against SC Union 06 Berlin and 1. FC Sobernheim was therefore on June 24, 1961 in the final in Hanover against Siegburger SV 04 . The amateur final took place before the final of the German championship between 1. FC Nürnberg and Borussia Dortmund, which the "club" won with 3-0 goals in front of 82,000 spectators. Podlich and colleagues prevailed with 5: 1 goals and brought the German championship of amateurs to Kiel. On April 15, 1962, the young player made his debut in a 2-2 home draw against Werder Bremen on the left wing in the Oberliga Nord football league. In the last year of the old league system, 1962/63 , Podlich completed 16 games at the side of strike partners Manfred Greif , Gerd Koll and Horst Martinsen and scored five goals for Kiel, which landed in fifth place in the table.

According to the new class division - with the round 1963/64 the Bundesliga started with 16 teams - he belonged with Kiel to the Football Regionalliga Nord. After finishing fifth in his debut year, the German champions of 1912 won the championship in the north in 1964/65 with a goal difference of 94:21 goals and ten points ahead of runner-up St. Pauli. Podlich had played 46 games and scored 16 goals in the two rounds. In the Bundesliga promotion round - the team was looked after by Braunschweig coach Helmuth Johannsen - he played all six games against Borussia Mönchengladbach , SSV Reutlingen and Wormatia Worms . Outstanding was the 4-2 home win against the promoted team from Niederrhein on June 19, 1965, when Podlich scored the 2-2 equalizer in the 69th minute of the game. For the 1965/66 season, Podlich accepted the offer from the new German champions Werder Bremen and moved to the Bundesliga.

Bundesliga and Regionalliga West, 1965 to 1970

Bremen started their title defense with the three newcomers John Danielsen , Hugo Dausmann and Podlich. On the start day, August 14, 1965, coach Günter Brocker immediately deployed the man from Kiel in the 1-0 home win against 1. FC Nürnberg . In October 1965 Podlich also completed the two victorious games in the European Cup of national champions against Apoel Nicosia. In the Bundesliga, however, Gerhard Zebrowski , Klaus Matischak and Klaus Hänel prevailed in the Werder offensive and Podlich had to make do with eleven appearances and six goals. In the following season - Werner Görts now stormed in the Weser Stadium - he was no longer used and therefore moved to Preußen Münster in 1967 in the Football Regionalliga West.

When goalkeeper legend Bernd Trautmann made his coaching debut in 1967/68, only 13th place came out and Podlich experienced the relegation battle again in the second year in Münster with teammates Günter Augustat , Falk Dörr , Dagmar Drewes and Heinz-Rüdiger Voss . In the summer of 1970, after 67 regional league appearances with 19 goals, he ended his contract playing career and went back to the amateur camp. He joined the 1970/71 round of the Westphalian amateur league team TuS Ahlen.
