He designed hundreds of environmental and conceptual graphics consisting of stencilled words and symbols in the United States , Germany , Sweden , Canada and England under the stars. As a pioneer in the street art movement, Fekner painted the words "Itchycoo Park" in large, white letters in 1968 on an empty building in Gorman Park , New York City. John Fekner can look back on a wide range of works that he has created during his professional career and that may seem insignificant at first glance. He is an artist who sets everything in motion that seems important to him to convey a vision or message and whose work changes continuously as his vision grows. Fekner's interests range from general concepts of perception and change to specific ecological and sociological issues such as urban decay , poverty , education , toxic chemicals , advertising , mass media , clergy and the history of Native Americans . There are now also projects that have been specially created for the Internet. Fekner's works include paintings , sculptures , computer-generated video and audio works as well as various online projects. He is known for more than three hundred "ecological / conceptual" works, which are composed of dates, words, symbols , templates and outdoor works. Many of John Fekner's works, especially the stencils, were created in cooperation with other artists. In New York, for example, he worked with Don Leicht. John Fekner worked on another project with DAZE and in Berlin.
