John Hagan

John Lee Hagan (born February 15, 1946 ) is a Canadian and American ( dual citizenship ) sociologist and criminologist .

Hagan studied sociology and received his BA in 1968 from the University of Illinois , and his MA in 1971 from the University of Alberta , where he also received his doctorate ( Ph.D. ) in 1974 . After teaching at various universities in Canada and the USA, Hagan has been Professor of Sociology and Law at Northwestern University in Evanston (Illinois) since 1999

Hagan is an internationally known researcher on violence . In 2009 he was awarded the Stockholm Prize in Criminology . In 2010 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and in 2017 to the National Academy of Sciences .
