John Haltiwanger

John Couch Haltiwanger (* 1955 ) is an American economist and university professor .

Career, research and teaching

Haltiwanger studied applied business mathematics at Brown University , where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1977 . He then went to Johns Hopkins University , where he received his Ph.D. in economics.

Haltiwanger held his first teaching position between 1981 and 1986 as an assistant professor at the University of California, Los Angeles , followed by postings as an associate professor at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland until 1987 and thereafter until 1990 . There he was then appointed full professor.

The focus of research and teaching at Haltiwanger is in particular dealing with the creation and destruction as well as the fluctuation of jobs. He also deals with productivity and investments related to employment.

Haltiwanger is a member of the American Economic Association , the Econometric Society, and the American Statistical Association . Since 2001 he has been a Research Fellow of the Bonn Institute for the Future of Work .
