Louis Lecompte

John Howard Louis Lecompte (born July 28, 1914 in Montréal , Québec , † February 1970 in Nairobi , Kenya ) was a Canadian ice hockey player and referee . At the Olympic Winter Games in 1948 , he won the gold medal as a member of the Canadian national team.

Career

Louis Lecompte began his career as a hockey player with the Ottawa Rideaus, for which he was active from 1932 to 1934 in the Ottawa Junior Hockey League. He also spent a season with the Ottawa Canadiens in the Ottawa Senior League. In 1935 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force , where he initially worked as a photographer in the public relations office. Eventually he reached the rank of flight lieutenant. While in the army, he played for the RCAF Flyers. He also played for the Truro Bearcats from the Nova Scotia Antigonish-Pictou County Hockey League and the Ottawa Rockcliffe RCAF from the Ottawa National Defense Hockey League. After the war, he joined the Dartmouth RCAF from the Halifax City Senior Hockey League and then played for the Ottawa Senators from the Upper Ottawa Valley Hockey League. He returned to the RCAF Flyers in 1947 and took part in the 1948 Winter Olympics with the team for Canada. In 1948 he also played in four games for the Rockcliffe RCAF from the ONDHL.

In the 1950s Lecompte was active as a referee in the Ontario Hockey Association and in 1953 at the Memorial Cup . He was also active as a referee at the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo . From 1963 he worked for the Canadian Foreign Ministry in Nairobi , Kenya , where he died in 1970 at the age of 55.

International

For Canada , Lecompte took part in the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz , where he and his team won the gold medal. In eight games he scored two goals and three assists.
