John MacEwan

John J. MacEwan (born December 6, 1878 in Egmondville , Ontario , Canada , † February 1, 1964 in Los Angeles County , California , USA ) was an American football player and official. In 1953 he was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in the "Official" category.

life and career

John J. MacEwan was born on December 6, 1878 in the historic village of Egmondville, now part of the Seaforth parish , in the Canadian province of Ontario. He came to the United States at a young age, where he began his football career in Cleveland , Ohio . Later he was, among other things, administrator of the Fodor Club , a football club that reached the semi-finals of the National Challenge Cup in 1922 . He subsequently became president of the Cleveland League and later the Ohio State Association . From 1934 to 1936 he served as the third vice president of the United States Football Association from Ohio before moving to Michigan after World War II to work as secretary for the Michigan Commission and as a commissioner for the aforementioned National Challenge Cup . He held the position of commissioner for the next eleven years and was also a columnist for National Soccer News , before he was honored by the US Football Association for his life's work on US football and in the "Official" category early in 1953 National Soccer Hall of Fame was inducted . In 1956 he returned to Ohio, where he was re-elected President of the Ohio State Association in 1958. In this office he was active until 1959, before he resigned from work for health reasons at the age of 80 and resigned from this position. He then died on February 1, 1964, at the age of 86, in Los Angeles County , California .
