Contributors

For John Mellencamp , Mellencamp again relied on the support of copywriter George Michael Green , with whom he had already written titles such as Human Wheels (1993), Rain on the Scarecrow (1985) and Hurts So Good (1982). Violinist Lisa Germano , drummer Stan Lynch and guitarist Izzy Stradlin (ex-Guns N 'Roses) were guest musicians on the title Miss Missy .

successes

John Mellencamp was on the Billboard 200 for twenty weeks and reached number 41. In Switzerland the album rose to position 48 and then immediately disappeared from the charts. In Germany and Austria, John Mellencamp could not place in the charts. From a commercial point of view, the album didn't live up to expectations.

Your Life is Now was nominated for the 1999 Grammy Award in the Best Male Rock Vocal Performance category. However, the award went to Lenny Kravitz .

reception

The Rolling Stone described John Mellencamp as rock-solid work by a spirited Heartland artist who not only ran after the past (“a rock-solid piece of work from a feisty heartland artist who is not merely coasting on the past”), and awarded four of five stars.

In Allmusic's view , it's not the serious songs like Fruit Trader and Your Life is Now that make John Mellencamp's strength . Rather, the best material are the pieces that were probably intended to fill the gaps, especially I'm not Running Anymore and Miss Missy . If Mellencamp really wants to reinvent himself and increase his album sales, he should put more happiness into his music. Allmusic rated the album three out of five stars.
