John Mutwa

John Mutwa (born September 23, 1960 in Mahundu , South West Africa ) is a Namibian lieutenant general . From December 2013 to March 2020 he was Chief of the Defense Force, the highest incumbent in the Namibian Defense Force (NDF).

Military background

education

Mutwa joined the People's Liberation Army of Namibia in the Namibian liberation struggle in 1975 in Zambia . From 1976 he received military training in the Tanzanian Kongwa , which he successfully completed two years later. In 1981 he went to what was then the Soviet Union for a year for further training and in 1978 he trained in counter-espionage in Yugoslavia , which he continued in 1991 in the United Kingdom . In 1993 and 1994 Mutorwa attended further training courses in the USA , before he returned to the UK for logistics training . In 1997 he completed a university education at the University of Namibia in military criminal law and in South Africa in defense management. In 1998 he completed a two-year training course in security strategies at the South African National Defense College .

Namibian Defense Force

Mutwa began his military administrative career in the NDF with Namibia's independence in 1990. Initially, as Lieutenant Colonel , he was Deputy Director for Military Intelligence in the Namibian Ministry of Defense , before he became the commanding officer of the logistics battalion for two years . From 1996 to 1998 Mutwe was Colonel in the Chief of Army Staff and moved in the same position in 1999 to the SADC mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo . Mutwe was Namibia's military attaché in Angola from 2004 to 2005 and returned to his homeland in 2006. In the next five years until 2011, Mutwe was responsible for logistics as Brigadier General . From 2011, until his appointment as Chief of the Defense Force, he was the Commander in Chief of the Namibian Army .

Awards

Mutwa is decorated with the service medal and the service medal in gold.
