John Parr (knight)

Sir John Parr of Kendal (* 1438 , † 1475 ) was an English knight .

Life

Sir John Parr of Kendal was the second son of Sir Thomas Parr and Alice Tunstall, daughter of Sir Thomas Tunstall.

He began his career with the outbreak of the Wars of the Roses . According to some sources, he fought for the House of York in May 1455 at the First Battle of St Albans and in September 1459 at Blore Heath at the side of Richard Neville, 5th Earl of Salisbury and Thomas Harrington .

After the battles of Wakefield on December 30, 1460 and Towton on March 29, 1461, in which John Parr took part, he was rewarded by King Edward IV for his loyalty and endowed with several important offices. In 1462 he was named High Sheriff of Westmorland for life , an office previously held by John Clifford, 9th Baron de Clifford , a supporter of the House of Lancaster . John Parr was called to the Parament three times from 1460, received the offices of Kings Esquire (1461), Chief Forester of Whinfell (1461), Chief Steward of Westmorland Holdings (1461), Esquire for the Body (1467), Master of the Horse for Kings Household and Constable of Kenilworth Castle (1471) .

Sir John fought in April 1471 on the side of Edward IV at Barnet and Tewkesbury in May 1471 and received his accolade there .

Sir John Parr of Kendal died in 1475.

Marriage and offspring

Sir John was married to a daughter of Sir John Young, Lord Mayor of London .
