John Pont

John Pont (born November 13, 1927 in Canton , Ohio ; † July 1, 2008 in Oxford , Ohio) was an American college football coach who worked at Miami University , Yale University , Indiana University and Northwestern University was active.

During his school days, Pont was a halfback on the Miami University team. After completing his military service, he played professional football in Canada . From 1956 to 1962 he was a coach in Miami, after which he moved to Yale for one season. Pont was a coach at Indiana University from 1965 to 1972, and in 1967 the team made their only entry to the Rose Bowl , but the team was defeated by Southern California. That year he was named Trainer of the Year by the National Collegiate Athletic Association . He was also a member of the Cradle of Coaches at Miami University, the Halls of Fame at the Universities of Miami and Indiana and the Mid-American Conference . Until 1977 he was a coach at Northwestern University.

After the end of his college football career, he worked as a coach and consultant in Japan to build a semi-professional American football league.
