John Schmidt (born April 12, 1973 ) is an American pool player . He was 14/1 endless world champion in 2012 and won the US Open in 2006 .

Career

In 1999 Schmidt reached eleventh place in 9-ball at the Derby City Classic , in 2002 he was fourth in one pocket , and in 2003 he was 35th in one pocket. He also won the 2003 Summer Sands Regency Reno Open and was twenty-fifth at the US Open . In 2004 he finished fifth in the Derby City Classic bank pool competition. In the One Pocket and 9-Ball he finished 45th and 48th, respectively, and 49th place at the US Open. At the Derby City Classic 2005 he reached 13th place in the bank pool and was sixteenth in the one pocket. At the 9-Ball World Cup in 2005 he was eliminated in the preliminary round, at the US Open he finished 65th. In the bank pool, Schmidt finished thirtieth at the 2006 Derby City Classic. At the 14/1 endless World Cup , he was eliminated in the round of 16. He won the US Open by beating the Philippine Rodolfo Luat in the final .

In 2007 Schmidt lost in the final of the 14/1 tournament of the Derby City Classics against Mika Immonen from Finland . He finished fourth at the BCA Open. In the quarter-finals of the 14/1 World Cup he lost to his compatriot Danny Harriman . He finished the US Open 2007 in 65th place. In 2008 he was third in the Derby City Classic in both 9-ball and 14/1. He finished 23rd in the bank pool and 58th in the one pocket. At the Predator International Championship he was ninth, in the quarter-finals of the 14/1 World Cup he lost to the Dutchman Niels Feijen , at the US Open he finished 33rd. At the Derby City Classic 2009 Schmidt won the One Pocket Challenge, in 14/1 he was third and in 9-ball he was fifteenth. At the Predator International Championship, he finished 17th. In 2010 Schmidt lost in the one pocket final of the Derby City Classic against the Canadian Alex Pagulayan . He was also third in 14/1 and twelfth in 9-ball. At the World Pool Masters 2010 he lost in the round of 16 against the Canadian John Morra , at the US Open he finished 65th.

In the 14/1 Challenge of the Derby City Classic 2011, Schmidt finished fifth and in 9-ball he finished 21st. At the 14/1 World Cup he was eliminated in the sixteenth finals, at the US Open he was seventeenth. In 2012, Schmidt reached fourth place and 14th place in the One Pocket in the 14/1 Challenge of the Derby City Classic. With a victory in the final against Efren Reyes from the Philippines , he also won the 14/1 World Cup . In 2013 he lost in the semi-finals to eventual world champion Thorsten Hohmann . He also finished 25th at the US Open One Pocket and at the US Open 10-Ball. At the Derby City Classic 2014 he finished ninth in the 14/1 Challenge and reached 25th place in the bank pool and 50th place in the one pocket.

Schmidt was nominated for the Mosconi Cup in 2006 and 2014 and won it with the American team in 2006, which resulted in a 12-12 draw.
