John Wetzel (* 18 July 1991 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ) is an American American football poker players on the position of offensive tackles . He is currently under contract with the Atlanta Falcons National Football League (NFL). He previously played for the Dallas Cowboys and the Arizona Cardinals .

Career

After Wetzel was not selected in the 2013 NFL Draft , the Oakland Raiders signed him as a free agent . He was injured before the start of the season, however, whereupon Wetzel agreed with the Raiders on an injury compensation and then left the team.

On November 12, 2013, the Dallas Cowboys signed Wetzel for their Practice Squad . After initially making it into the main Cowboys squad for the 2014 season , he was released after just one day to make way for guard Donald Hawkins . Afterwards, however, the cowboys signed Wetzel for their practice squad. As part of the final squad downsizing, Wetzel was fired on the last day of the 2015 preseason . Afterwards, the cowboys signed Wetzel again for their practice squad.

He was released on November 12, 2015 and hired by the Indianapolis Colts for their practice squad on November 24, 2015 . On December 1, 2015, the Colts released him.

On December 9, 2015, the Arizona Cardinals signed Wetzel for their Practice Squad. In the 2016 season he made the jump into the Cardinals squad. On the 6th game day against the New York Jets he started his first game on the position of the guard . After Jared Veldheer injured himself in the eighth game, Wetzel became the Cardinals' starting left tackle.

After the third day of the 2019 season, Wetzel moved to the Atlanta Falcons . For the Falcons, he was used in two games. He was released from the Falcons on March 2, 2020, but signed for the 2020 season just two days later.
