John Chester Williams (born September 12, 1953 in Cranesville , Pennsylvania ) is an American archer .
Williams first international success was the second place in singles at the World Archery Championships in 1969. In 1971 he won both the individual world championship and, together with Edwin Eliason and Larry Smith , the team world championship. He confirmed these successes the following year by winning the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Munich .
In 1976 he wrote an archery textbook, Archery for beginners .
In his hometown, John Williams Avenue was named after him.
In 2015 he was inducted into the Archery Hall of Fame .
