Johnny Kenton

Johnny Kenton (born in Great Britain around 1980 ) is a British film director , screenwriter and film producer .

Life

Kenton grew up in the Scottish Highlands . While still at school and studying at Newcastle University , he made music videos and short films that were shown at festivals in Raindance, Clermont-Ferrand , Venice and the London Short Film Festival. He also gained theater experience and staged two shows in Edinburgh. In 2012 he made the low-budget short film Hereafter with Anthony Head . The film won the jury award for best film at the New York Television Festival. It was produced on a minimal budget, funded from Kenton's own resources and fundraising , of £ 4,000. Lydia Wilson , Rob Ostlere and Taron Egerton were also on the cast.

A David Lean Scholarship enabled him to study at the National Film and Television School , which he successfully completed in 2016 with the film Dead Birds , a black comedy about a mother-daughter relationship with Shannon Tarbet and Tara Fitzgerald in the lead roles . Dead Birds won the Audience Award and the Student Jury Award at the Poitiers Film Festival and was a 2018 Student Academy Awards finalist .

Kenton is the director of Pylon , episode 1 / season 6 of The Young Inspector Morse , which first aired on February 10, 2019.
