Johnny Mauro (born October 25, 1910 in Denver , Colorado , † January 23, 2003 in Golden , Colorado) was an American racing car driver .

Career

Mauro's family owned several auto dealerships, making him the only Ferrari importer in the Denver area for many years . He therefore drove vehicles used by Ferrari in the 1940s and 50s and was the founder of the "United States Truck Driving School", which his daughter still runs today. In early 2003 he had a fatal accident in a traffic accident. He was 92 years old.

During his racing career, he tried six times to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 . He only succeeded in 1948. Here he and Louis Durant reached eighth place in an Alfa Romeo .
