Johnny Rae

Johnny Rae (actually John Anthony Pompeo, born August 11, 1934 in Saugus, Massachusetts ) is an American drummer , percussionist and vibraphonist of modern jazz and Latin jazz .

Live and act

Johnny Rae became a professional musician in 1952 and first played with Herb Pomeroy in 1953/54 , with George Shearing from 1955 to 1956 , with Johnny Smith in 1956, with Ralph Sharon in 1957, with Cozy Cole in 1958. In 1959 he became a member of Herbie Mann's band , with whom he visited Europe in 1960. In the 1960s he was involved in the big band production of Stan Getz , Big Band Bossa Nova , in 1960 an album was released under his own name with the participation of Bobby Jaspar and Steve Kuhn . He also worked as an accompanist for Anita O'Day and played with Cal Tjader . In the 1970s he recorded records with Earl Hines , Art Van Damme and Barney Kessel, among others .
