Joki Tewes

Joki Tewes (* 1978 in Lippe ) is a German stage and costume designer .

Life

Before studying, Tewes worked for one season as a costume assistant at the Landestheater Detmold . From 1999 to 2003 she studied stage costume with Martin Rupprecht and Florence von Gerkan at the Berlin University of the Arts and then until 2007 stage design in Hartmut Meyer's class. During her studies she repeatedly worked as an assistant for costume and stage designers. In 2003 she made costumes for Philemon and Baucis at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden , and in 2005 the set for The Bartered Bride in the Rheinsberg Palace Theater .

Since 2007 Tewes has mostly been working with Jana Findeklee as a team of artists for drama and opera. In 2011 they were responsible for the set and costumes in Florian Lutz 's production of Così fan tutte at the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau . In the field of costume she works with Frank Castorf at the Schauspielhaus Zurich and the Residenztheater in Munich . From 2009 onwards both of them realized productions with Thomas Krupa and Christoph Frick at the Freiburg Theater . They have been working with Sebastian Baumgarten since 2012 for the Stuttgart State Theater , the Bremen Theater and for the Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Zurich theaters . Together with Christian Weise, the two realized the merchant of Venice in a production at the Darmstadt State Theater. For the Volksbühne in Berlin, the two created the set and costumes for The Man with Golden Dentures . The two also work as stage and costume designers at the Schauspiel Köln and the Staatstheater Darmstadt.

In 2013, Sebastian Baumgarten's production of The Holy Johanna of the Slaughterhouses was invited to the Theatertreffen of the Berliner Festspiele. Tewes and Findeklee designed the costumes here. In 2015 Tewes and Findeklee made the costumes for Albert Ostermaier's carnage at the Worms Nibelung Festival . The costumes for the performance of Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy at the Schauspielhaus Köln , which Tewes & Findeklee was responsible for , were recognized by critics as "very multifaceted".

In 2016 they made the costumes for Haydn's Orlando paladino in Zurich, created a video installation for Wozzeck at the Bremen Theater and worked with Sebastian Baumgarten for Gogol's Die toten Seelen at the Stuttgart State Theater .

Awards

• 2018: German Theater Prize Der Faust in the stage / costume category together with Jana Findeklee for Wilhelm Tell at the Schauspiel Köln in coproduction with the Theater Basel
