The Jomo Gangtse (also Qungmogangtse or Qungmo Kangri ) is the second highest mountain of the Western Nyainqêntanglha Mountains in the autonomous region of Tibet .

The Jomo Gangtse has a height of 7048  m . It is located in Nyêmo County within the prefecture -level city of Lhasa , the city center of which is 114 km east-southeast.

Ascent history

The Jomo Gangtse was first climbed on October 7, 1996 by five members (Wang Yon-Feng, Jung in-Kyu, Cha Jin-Chol, Moon Young-Soung and You Seok-Jae) of a Sino-Korean expedition over the south ridge. The following day two more expedition members (Lee Shoong-Jik and Cha-Yo-Han) reached the summit.

The second ascent took place on May 17, 1997 by a Japanese expedition over the south ridge. A third ascent was made on August 15, 1999 by another Japanese expedition, also over the south ridge. The fourth ascent was carried out by Christian Haas solo on October 16, 2005 in alpine style over the south ridge.
