Jon Thum

Jonathan Richard Alexandre Thum (* 1962 ) is a British VFX supervisor who won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects in 2000 for Matrix along with John Gaeta , Janek Sirrs and Steve Courtley .

Life

He earned a master's degree in computer graphics before working in London as a 3D animator and flame artist on commercials in the early 1990s. He then moved to Australia and was employed by the special effects company DFILM Services , where he was involved in films such as Dark City and Matrix , for which he also received an Oscar for Best Visual Effects .

He returned to the UK in 1999 and has worked for Framestore in such films as Sleepy Hollow , Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and The Matrix Reloaded . In 2007 he was nominated for the second time in the Best Visual Effects category for Superman Returns, along with Mark Stetson , Richard R. Hoover and Neil Corbould . In 2012 he changed his employer again and started at the special effects company Prime Focus World as a VFX supervisor .
