Jonas Jeitteles
Jonas Mischel Jeitteles (born May 5, 1735 in Prague , † April 18, 1806 in Prague) was a Jewish doctor from Bohemia .
Life
Jonas Jeitteles received his first training from his father, a pharmacist. In 1752 he studied medicine in Leipzig , in 1753 in Halle an der Saale , where he received his doctorate in 1755 . In 1756 he received permission to practice as a doctor among his co-religionists in Prague, in 1763 he was appointed to the Jewish hospital, and in 1777 he became president of the Prague Jewish medical association. In 1784 he was allowed to ordain without restrictions, that is, to treat non-Jewish patients. In this way he managed to lead a respected and significant practice.
Jonas Jeitteles founded an important Jewish family of scholars. He had four sons: Baruch Jeitteles , the liberal rabbi of the Klausen Synagogue , Gottlieb, Juda Jeitteles , an orientalist, and Isaak Jeitteles.
Jonas Jeitteles' grave is located in the Žižkov Jewish Cemetery in Prague.
