Jonas Kvarnström (* in Malmö ) is a Swedish - Canadian pianist and composer .

biography

Kvarnström grew up in Canada and completed his piano studies from 1979 at the University of Victoria in British Columbia . Successful participation in competitions and orchestral appearances followed. In 1984 he received a scholarship from the Rotary Foundation in Evanston , USA . He attended the Munich University of Music and took lessons in Europe from renowned teachers such as Klaus Schilde, Heidi Litschauer, Béla Síki , John Ogdon , Richard Goode and Ruth Laredo . On his return to Canada, he completed his studies at the University of British Columbia under Robert Silverman and earned a doctorate in musical arts in 1992 .

He later returned to Munich, where he works as a lecturer at the Bavarian Theater Academy and the University of Music.

Kvarnström made numerous classical recordings and published, among other things, an eight-part series with his own compositions under the title Musical Soundscapes (with Stefan Schramm). He moved not only in the field of classical music, but also in New Age and world music . In 1995 he was nominated for a Juno Award for Instrumental Artist of the Year. In 2012 he drew attention to himself with an album with film music in piano versions. His version of Una mattina by Ludovico Einaudi from the film Pretty Best Friends even made it into the German single charts in September 2012 .
