Jonathan Blondel (born April 3, 1984 in Ploegsteert , Comines-Warneton ) is a former Belgian football player .
Player career
The beginnings
Jonathan Blondel started his career as a footballer in the early 1990s with US Ploegsteert-Bizet , from where he joined Excelsior Mouscron in 1993 and was also used for the first time in the country's top football league in 2001. After a successful season in which he made 17 appearances at the age of just 17, the hopeful talent was signed by the English first division club Tottenham Hotspur , after having previously completed a test training session at top club Manchester United . In the next year and a half, however, he could not prevail at the Spurs and only came to two goalless appearances.
Club Bruges
In January 2004, Jonathan Blondel returned to his Belgian homeland after the unsuccessful time in England and signed a long-term contract with the top Belgian club FC Bruges . After just six months he was able to celebrate his first title with Bruges - they won the national cup. Shortly after his engagement, Blondel was able to secure regular appearances in midfield of FC and was able to contribute to the 2005 championship with two goals in 15 games. In 2007 he won the national cup for the second time with Bruges in the final against Standard Liège . At the end of the 2014/15 season, Blondel left the club after more than 200 competitive games and switched to the amateur field.
End of career
He then moved to his home club US Ploegsteert-Bizet (7th division) and a year later to the fifth division club KVK Westhoek , where he ended his career entirely in 2017.
National team
From 2002 Blondel was active in the Belgian senior team and also came to four goals in 20 games for the Belgian U-21 national team. Before that, he was in the U-16, U-17, U-19 and U-20 national teams. After his A international debut against Poland on August 21, 2002 , the midfielder was used in two further international matches in 2004. After years without another international match, let alone a call-up, Jonathan Blondel, who is 1.73 m tall, made his fourth and last appearance in an A international match in 2010.
