Jonathan Kodjia (born October 22, 1989 in Saint-Denis , France ) is an Ivorian football player who has been active for the Ivorian national football team since 2016 .

Career

Stade Reims

Jonathan Kodjia began his playing career at the French second division side Stade Reims . He made his Ligue 2 debut in 2008/09 on October 3, 2008 in a 4-1 home defeat against FCO Dijon . Since his playing times in Reims remained short in the following three seasons, he moved in the 2011/12 season on loan to third division AS Cherbourg and scored three goals in the Championnat de France National . He spent the 2012/13 season on loan at third division club SC Amiens and increased his goal count to nine goals. Due to his good performance in the third highest French division, the second division SM Caen signed him for Ligue 2 2013/14 on loan until the end of the season. The 24-year-old attacker contributed five league goals for third place in the table for promotion to Ligue 1 .

SCO Angers

In the summer of 2014 he left Stade Reims and moved to the second division SCO Angers . For his new club he was able to increase his accuracy significantly and scored fifteen league goals. The Angers club finished Ligue 2 2014/15 in third place in the table and thus celebrated promotion to the first division. Jonathan Kodjia was named the best player in the French second division at the end of the season.

Bristol City

On July 20, 2015, the English second division promoted Bristol City announced the commitment of Jonathan Kodjia. In the Football League Championship 2015/16 he was the fourth best goalscorer in the English second division with nineteen goals this season .

National team

The French-born son of an Ivorian father and a Beninese mother made his debut in the Ivorian national soccer team on May 20, 2016 in a 0-0 win against the Hungarian national soccer team . He scored his first goal in his second international match in the qualifier for the 2017 African Cup of Nations against the Gabonese national football team .
